A poll showed that Kamala Harris would have gotten 70% of Canada’s vote – that’s worse than any US state! Only 3 states gave her more than 60%. With a population of 40M, Canada would make the US voting pool much worse. We should be seceding from the blue states, not adding more.
I wrote about the two provinces of Canada that the US should annex here: https://redstatesecession.org/where-north-america-would-split-in-a-peaceful-national-divorce/
If the blue states become weak, they can become vassal states of ours, but not members of our federation. Not formal territories of the US. Empire is foolish. I do believe that a bigger federation is better, to avoid being bullied by world powers and their defense research & development
But even in countries where no one votes, the ruler can’t afford for his loyal people to be vastly outnumbered by opponents. Maybe in the old days when no one had time to look up from their plow, and no internet to know where the political winds are blowing. But not in modern times.
Authoritarian governments can’t survive unless they have a sizable minority who are earnestly loyal to them. This limits the amount of territory that our guys should want to rule.
We must create a federation that is small enough that people like us gain and remain in power – anyone rational enough to avoid moral and fiscal bankruptcy. I don’t mean as small as a nation. I just mean small enough to not include states whose majorities are credulous enough or Leftist enough to vote Left. Each member state can try to pursue its own identity.
Merely restricting suffrage or creating constitutional devices is not enough, and it’s not lasting, because de facto power beats de jure power! This is how the oligarchy already works in the US. We saw that voting is not the important thing when the Left advanced during Trump’s first term. The Left has brains, talents, money, and people even if you wrest control of all their institutions from them. This gives them soft power. They can also engage in insurrections, jokes aside. Not successful ones, but costly ones. So ruling blue states as non-voting territories is not worth the costs.
Also, I don’t see a near-term path for taking their institutions from them, but I do see a very easy path to National Divorce starting with Texas or Louisiana’s unilateral peaceful secession. Texas voters are ready.
At the start of this essay, I allowed that Canada, or blue states can remain a vassal state. I said this because the red states will always be very interested in countries with whom they share a border. But there is a good reason to limit our interference in foreign nations. The more the US meddles in other countries, the more those countries will try to bribe our officials and meddle in elections. Indeed, this is why pols like Biden meddle a lot – to increase the bribes. The more our government frustrates foreigners, the more foreigners will influence our elections through media and other indirect donations of time and money to political campaigns, and indeed our whole governing class of influencers, media etc, making our government more foreign. That’s already happened.
My problem with trying to grow the US empire is that it’s not our empire, and it won’t be ours permanently. It is controlled by the governing class – the Left-leaning people who have already been credentialed by Leftist institutions. Trump will be replaced by a Dem in 4 to 8 years, and he’s already limited by the RINOs in Congress, the Judiciary, and the other institutions of influence.
Since I wrote that “Trump’s win isn’t enough – We Need a National Divorce,” we’ve seen three of Trump’s decisions blocked by federal judges in his first 2 weeks in office… judges who would have no influence in a federation of red states. This will escalate, as I predicted, and we may see Trump removed from office by Congressional impeachment after the press has criticized him long enough and something major goes wrong.
The three judicial decisions are:
Blocking Trump’s EO that ended birthright citizenship for illegals
Blocking Trump’s pause on federal grants & loans
Blocking the transfer of a biological man from women’s prison to men’s prison according to Trump’s EO
